It is a busy time in the City of Newbern. With the culmination of another school year brings several opportunities for the children of the area to take advantage of some of our programs.

Newbern Library once again will be hosting their annual summer reading program, and I know that Mrs. Janice will be pleased to see children and adults alike in the library learning and growing. In the coming weeks we will once again be opening the swimming pool for public use at Oakview. This will provide the opportunity for our residents to be active this summer and do so all while having fun.

Also we are proud to announce the opening of the City’s 2 nd Saferoom. This facility located behind the police station not only will provide shelter for up to 650 people but will also serve as the Boardroom and Courtroom for the City as well. Some of the other projects that we have currently going on in the city are the Downtown Enhancement Grant work that should be completed by the end of this summer, as well as sidewalk improvements throughout the City.

Finally, myself and the entire staff at the City of Newbern would like to congratulate all of the local graduates and their families. We wish you all the best luck in your future endeavors and may God bless you.

Sincerely,
Mayor Justin A. Wright
